Structure of the Movement

The experience of YCS is that of a movement and not collection of individual experiences. Each of our groups and teams is part of a coherent whole situated within a wider force than its particular experience, hence the role of various coordinating bodies, coordinators, teachers of faith is vital for the life of the movement. The commitment of the YCS to effective liberation which calls forth to engage greater effort to transform the concrete reality must clearly characterise the coordination of our movement. This demands that the structures and frameworks and coordination of our movement need to be capable of meeting the questions and experience of our members at the base, supporting the experience and able to respect and encourage it. The structures the movement creates need to help all the people in the movement to enrich and realise their full capacities. Our relations and coordination must be free of domination and paternalism (giving people no responsibility). but rather, our movement should be characterised by the solidarity of shared discovery of faith and commitment occuring at all levels of the movement. In this sense, the structures or organisation of our movement are a sign and symbol of our faith in the kingdom. In this view, each group, team etc in our respective schools , colleges, universities, which are all part of our national movement need a fair amount of autonomy , the reality in which they are and their experience.

Coordinating Bodies

Area team, National Team, Pan-African Team and International Team Functions

  1. To be the living memory of our movement, and to be capable of an interpretation of its history, aims and objectives
  2. To understand and revise information and to understand the questions raised by the church and the milieu.
  3. To accompany grass-roots groups in their actions and to use elements of the process of review of life and to provide means of overcoming obstacles.
  4. To observe the different rates of progress of the movement, so that a reorganisation where necessary action can be effected or emphasis may be on certain areas of vital importance
  5. Coordination is the condition that gives the movement drive, for it unifies and gives coherence and unity to the diverse experiences of our movement
  6. A certain judgement on the future developments of the milieu and the movement possible and necessary in order to consolidate the efforts of the base teams.
  7. The leaders must never forget that they are YCS members and not administrators and that they are serving the movement
  8. They must be attentive to the expectations and needs of the groups and the communities the groups are part of.

Coordinators

They coordinate the efforts of the movement, seek to raise a sense of responsibility in each member by dealing with the questions which crop up during the work of the movement. Our movement is a lay responsibility and therefore must be trained to develop their capacities in this field
